3-Day Mount Meru Climb Itinerary (4,566m)

Altitude: 1,500m → 2,514m
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

After breakfast, drive from Arusha to Momella Gate for park registration and briefing. Begin the hike through open grassland and montane forest, accompanied by an armed ranger due to wildlife presence.

Along the trail, expect sightings of giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and colobus monkeys. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut in the afternoon for rest, dinner, and overnight.

Altitude: 2,514m → 3,570m → 3,820m → 4,566m

•⁠ ⁠1–2 hours (Little Meru acclimatization hike)

After breakfast, continue ascending through forest and heath vegetation to Saddle Hut, beautifully positioned between Mount Meru and Little Meru, with impressive views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone.

After lunch and a short rest, take a late afternoon / early evening acclimatization hike to Little Meru Peak (3,820m). This hike is crucial for altitude adaptation and greatly increases summit success. Return to Saddle Hut before sunset for dinner and rest.

Around midnight, begin the summit ascent to Socialist Peak (4,566m), following a steep and dramatic ridgeline.

Hiking Time: 8–10 hours

Reach Socialist Peak around sunrise and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Highlands, and the Great Rift Valley.

After photos at the summit, descend back to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue descending via Miriakamba Hut and onward to Momella Gate.

Receive your Mount Meru climbing certificate at the gate before transferring back to Arusha or continuing with your safari or Kilimanjaro adventure.
