4-Day Mount Meru Climb Itinerary

Altitude: 1,500m → 2,514m
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive to Momella Gate for registration and briefing. Begin the trek through open grassland and montane forest, accompanied by an armed ranger due to wildlife presence.

Along the trail, you may encounter giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and colobus monkeys. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut in the afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Altitude: 2,514m → 3,570m → 3,820m → 3,570m
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours (to Saddle Hut) + 1–2 hours (Little Meru hike)

After breakfast, continue ascending through forest and heath vegetation toward Saddle Hut, beautifully positioned between Mount Meru and Little Meru. Enjoy impressive views of the Meru Crater, Ash Cone, and the surrounding plains.

After lunch and a short rest, head out on a late afternoon / early evening acclimatization hike to Little Meru Peak (3,820m). This gradual climb enhances acclimatization and offers spectacular sunset views before descending back to Saddle Hut.

Altitude: 3,570m → 4,566m → 2,514m
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours

Start around midnight for the summit ascent to Socialist Peak, following a steep and dramatic ridgeline. Reach the summit at sunrise and enjoy panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Highlands, and the Great Rift Valley.

After celebrating at the summit, descend to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue down to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight rest.

Descend through lush montane forest back to Momella Gate. Receive your Mount Meru climbing certificate, then transfer back to Arusha or onward to your next destination.
