+ 2 Nights at Pazuri Lodge | Starting & Ending in Arusha
Experience Tanzania’s Hidden Alpine Treasure
Mount Meru, standing at 4,566 meters, is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and a stunning adventure in its own right. Often considered Kilimanjaro’s little sister, Mount Meru offers incredible scenery, rich wildlife, fewer crowds, and a rewarding challenge — making it a favorite for trekkers looking for a shorter climb with dramatic landscapes. This 3-day itinerary is designed for adventurers with limited time but high expectations.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), you’ll be warmly welcomed by your GameDrive Africa guide. A private transfer will take you to the serene Pazuri Lodge, nestled in a quiet corner of Arusha.
Spend the day relaxing and acclimatizing as you enjoy the lush gardens, delicious cuisine, and personalized service. In the evening, your mountain guide will meet you for a comprehensive trek briefing and gear check, ensuring you’re fully prepared for the climb ahead.

After an early breakfast, you’ll drive into Arusha National Park to Momella Gate, where your Mount Meru adventure begins. Following registration and meeting your trekking crew (rangers, porters, and cook), you’ll start the hike through open savannah and dense forest.
Along the trail, you might encounter giraffes, buffalos, bushbucks, and various monkey species — an incredible blend of wildlife and mountain trekking. The trail ascends gradually through forested slopes, rich with birds and giant fig trees, before reaching Miriakamba Hut, where you’ll enjoy a hot meal and a peaceful night on the mountain.
Overnight at Miriakamba Hut | Meals: B, L, D
Hiking Time: 3–5 hours | Elevation Gain: 1,056m
Today’s trek takes you deeper into the highlands of Mount Meru. You’ll ascend through lush montane forest and into alpine meadows as you make your way to Saddle Hut, located just below Little Meru Peak.
After lunch, there’s an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m), which offers breathtaking views and a helpful warm-up for summit day. You’ll have an early dinner and settle in for the night, as tomorrow’s summit attempt begins before dawn.
Overnight at Saddle Hut | Meals: B, L, D
Hiking Time: 10–12 hours | Elevation Gain: 996m ascent & 3,066m descent
Rise around midnight for tea and snacks before beginning your ascent under the stars. The trail winds along a narrow ridge, offering dramatic views of the crater walls, ash cone, and — if the skies are clear — even Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
After several hours of challenging climbing, you’ll reach Socialist Peak, the summit of Mount Meru. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most spectacular sunrise panoramas in East Africa.
After soaking it in and snapping some celebratory photos, begin your descent via Saddle Hut back to Momella Gate, where a vehicle will be waiting. Return to Arusha and unwind in the comfort of Pazuri Lodge, where a warm shower and hearty dinner await.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast surrounded by the tranquility of Pazuri Lodge’s gardens. Depending on your travel plans, you can be transferred to the airport for your flight home or continue with another adventure — perhaps a safari to Ngorongoro or Serengeti, or even a beach escape to Zanzibar!
